The app with nothing to install

Forklift inspection app

Operators scan the QR code on the truck with their phone’s camera, and that truck’s daily checklist opens. No app store, no download, no login. Supervisors hear about a failed item before the operator has put the phone away.

7 days free. No card required.

The short version

  • It runs in the web browser on any phone or tablet, iPhone or Android.
  • Operators need no download, no account and no password.
  • Each truck has its own QR code, which opens that truck’s own checklist.
  • It keeps working where there is no signal and sends the inspection later.
  • Failed items reach the supervisor at once, and the truck comes out of service.

How an inspection works

  1. Scan. The operator points the phone’s camera at the QR code on the truck. Every phone and tablet made since about 2017 opens it without anything extra.
  2. Pick a name. The operator picks their name from your list. If you want proof of who did the work, turn on four-digit PINs.
  3. Tap through. Pass or fail on each item, with a note and a photo for anything that fails. The checklist already fits the truck: a propane sit-down gets the tank, relief valve and hose, an electric reach truck gets the battery, connector and charger.
  4. Submit. The record is filed with the time, the operator and the exact wording of every item. It can never be edited or deleted afterwards.

A passing inspection takes under a minute.

Why there is nothing to download

A downloaded app adds work at rollout. Someone has to install it on every phone, keep it updated, and give every operator a login they will forget. A temp who starts on Monday needs all of that before they can do a check, and a shop phone passed between three shifts needs three people signed in to it.

A QR code skips all of it. The phone the operator already carries is the device, and the code on the truck is the login. Add a name to the operator list and that person can inspect a minute later.

You pay for the account and the units on it, not for each operator, so it costs nothing to add every driver, every temp and every shift.

What the supervisor gets

  • An alert the moment something fails, by email, or by text with the text-alert add-on, with the item, the operator’s note and the photo.
  • The truck out of service after a critical failure. Anyone who scans it afterwards sees a red Out of service screen until it is returned to service.
  • A list of the trucks not inspected today, on the dashboard and in a daily email, which is the one thing a paper binder can never show you.
  • A defect queue that tracks what was fixed, and by whom.
  • PM schedules by months, hour meter or miles, and operator training records with certifications coming due flagged 60 days ahead.
  • Records ready for an audit: any date range to Excel, any inspection or month to PDF.

Supervisors use the same site on a phone or a computer. They are the only ones who sign in.

Built for the back of the warehouse

Steel racking blocks phone signal, and that is where the trucks are parked. Once the checklist has opened, it keeps working with no coverage. A finished inspection is saved on the phone and sends itself when there is signal again, so a dead corner never loses one.

Not only forklifts

The same app inspects reach trucks, order pickers, pallet jacks, battery chargers, scissor and boom lifts, floor scrubbers, cars, vans and pickups, and aviation ground support equipment. Each type starts with its own checklist, and anything else can start from blank.

Questions

Is there an iPhone or Android app to download?

No. SafeChecklist runs in the browser that is already on every iPhone, Android phone and tablet. Scanning the QR code opens it.

Do operators need an email address or a password?

No. They pick their name from the list you keep. If you want each inspection tied to the person who did it, turn on four-digit operator PINs, which are off by default.

Can operators use their own phones?

Yes, or a shared shop phone or tablet. Nothing is installed and no one is signed in, so any device that can scan a QR code works.

What if someone copies the QR code?

Each code is long and unguessable, identifies one truck, and never shows its inspection history. If a sticker is lost or copied, regenerating the code retires the old one.

Can I change the checklist?

Yes. Every truck starts with the standard items for its type and fuel, and you can add, remove, rename and reorder anything. Editing a checklist never changes a record already filed.

What does it cost?

$29 a month for the account plus $3 per unit, with unlimited operators and supervisors. No contract, and 7 days free with no card. Work out your price.
